Welcome to the world's oldest desert

This is a unique private reserve set in Southern Namibia, one of the largest in Southern Africa and extending over an area of 202,000 hectares. This is a place to visit for the vastness and beauty of its landscape. All the different areas of the Namib desert can be found within the protection of the reserve; a spectacular scenery of inselbergs, gravel plains scattered with kopjes, 300-metre high sand dunes, canyons and savannah.

On NamibRand safari tours you can find a wide variety of plains game, with the oryx the most common animal to spot, and you can also see kudu, Hartman’s and Burchell’s zebra, giraffe, ostrich, klipspringer, steenbok, hartebeest and baboon, perhaps even tracking much smaller animals and invertebrates by their footprints in the sand with your guide. Time spent out in the wilderness is the ideal way to learn more about the many NamibRand conservation efforts in action. Don’t miss the opportunity to join a San guide on a journey into the ancient traditions of their community, learning about their rich heritage and spiritual connection to the desert.

One of the most memorable elements of an adventure here are the fantastic and unending vistas, at their most spectacular at sunset, and continuing even after that. Declared Africa’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, NamibRand star gazing is some of the best in the world.  The reserve also shares a border with the vast Namib-Naukluft National Park, and it is possible to take day trips to some of its famous sights such as Sossusvlei.
