Bale Mountain Lodge

Make the most of unspoiled wilderness surroundings at this boutique forest hideaway, nestled deep in the Bale Mountain National Park. Local stone and thatch help the central lodge to blend into the hillside as much as possible, while sweeping windows offer prime views of the clearing and distant mountains.

Curl up in front of a sunken fireplace on a cold evening, or soak up the warmth from the wood burning stove in one of 11 cosy rooms. The furniture is crafted locally using sustainable wood, and the high-quality Ethiopian furnishings are also sourced from nearby.

Head out into the park and follow marked tracks through the forest or out onto the plateau. There is a wealth of wildlife to look out for, but especially interesting are the bale monkeys native to that region. A visit to the Sanetti Plateau may even result in a sighting of the rare Ethiopian wolf.
