    Lewa, Kenya

    Private Wilderness

Exclusive safari living in Lewa Conservancy
A luxury safari lodge with a swimming pool, lounge chairs, and thatched-roof buildings surrounded by desert plants.

A private safari house set within one of Kenya’s most important wildlife reserves

Private Wilderness is an exclusive-use safari house situated within the 62,000-acre Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. The propery offers a highly personal way to experience one of Kenya’s protected landscapes. Lewa is known for its wildlife and nature conservation, with opportunities to see species such as black rhinos, Grevy’s zebras and elephants.

This private house has been designed to accomodate families or small groups, combining the freedom of a luxury home with the structure of a fully supported safari. The property is arranged across five thatched cottages, each positioned to look out over the Eastern Marania River and surrounding bush.

Interiors are simple and comfortable, with wooden furnishings made by local carpenters and large windows and verandas from which to spend time spotting wildlife – big game, birds and endangered species, such as the black rhino. Shared spaces include an open-plan sitting and dining area, shaded terraces and a swimming pool overlooking the conservancy, creating places to gather between time spent out on game drives.

Your schedule at Private Wilderness has complete flexibility, as a personal safari guide and dedicated game viewing vehicle are on hand to tailor each day. You can wake early for morning bush drives, go on a walkig safari, horse riding expedition or have slow afternoons relaxing at the house.

Meals are prepared by a private chef according to the rhythm of your day, following wildlife and weather rather than a fixed timetable. The lodge also offers rides in an open-cockpit biplane, where you can soar over gorges, rivers and plains looking for big game from the air.

    Saruni Samburu

Perched in the Kalama Mountains with panoramic views across northern Kenya, Saruni Samburu is a luxury safari lodge set within the 95,000-hectare Kalama Conservancy. Leopards occasionally visit nearby waterholes, while the surrounding plains attract abundant wildlife and the predators that follow.

The lodge comprises six design-led luxury villas, each positioned on open decking with sweeping views across the Samburu wilderness. It’s an exceptional base for exploring wildlife and the rich cultural traditions of the Samburu region.

Located 7km north of Samburu National Reserve, the lodge offers access to the Samburu Special Five: reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx and gerenuk. Right at your doorstep, Kalama Conservancy – which borders the reserve – provides private game viewing with fewer vehicles and a greater sense of exclusivity.

Beyond game drives, spend time with Samburu warriors learning traditional tracking skills across the open plains. Expert guides offer deep insight into the region’s wildlife and ecosystems. And a two-hour drive away, visit Saruni Rhino for the rare opportunity to track black rhino on foot.
