The northernmost region of Madagascar, the Diana Region is centred around the capital of Antsiranana (also known as Diego-Suarez), and the sweeping Antisiranana Bay.

With a narrow inlet and deep, protected waters, it once provided haven to privateers during the ‘Golden Age of Piracy’ and was an important French harbour for ships steaming east.

Today, the colonial town is pleasantly laid-back place with good food, bustling markets and great views. It’s also the jumping off point to reach nearby beach resorts, some great kite and windsurfing spots, as well as a number of attractions to the south, such as the beautiful Amber Mountain National Park, Tsingy Rouge and Maromokotro, the highest peak on the island.
