Sitting on the Atlantic Coast between the Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast, these two towns are only 30 kilometres apart and offer, not only a comfortable base to explore these two natural wonders, but are lively centres for a fantastic array of adventure sports.
From sky diving, dune boarding and quadbiking to scenic balloon flights, horse riding, windsurfing, fishing and kitesurfing, the menu of adrenaline-spiking activities will satisfy even the most ardent thrill-seeker. Also for one of the most electrifying sights of the Skeleton Coast, you can spot the Winston shipwreck off Durissa Bay not far from Swakopmund.
For those who enjoy a gentler pace, the Swakop River delta, the lagoon around Walvis Bay and Sandwich harbour are all a haven for birdlife (the latter is one of the most important bird refuges in southern Africa) and provide some excellent bird watching opportunities. See pink flamingos, pelicans, avocets, cormorants, stilts and kestrels amongst many more.
