Morukuru River House

Glamerous safari lodge

Elevated luxury private house with river views

Successive levels of stone and wood rise out of the treeline bordering the Marico River to form Morukuru’s outstanding River House.

As the houses are booked on an exclusive use basis, this property is an ideal option for larger groups travelling together. The River House caters for up to six adults and four children with three spacious double en-suite rooms, featuring all the luxury modern amenities you could wish for; think super king-size beds, crackling log fires, tree-shaded private decks and much more.

Combining European styling and African influences, The River House has great synergy between indoors and outdoors, with decking and a barbecue area presenting some great opportunities for alfresco dining. This accommodation is close to the Owner’s House, a winning combination for those wishing to book both properties and still enjoy maximum privacy.

The impact of your stay:

  • Each stay at Morukuru River House contributes essential conservation fees to safeguard the biodiverse area of Madikwe Game Reserve. Over the past decade, the River House has led key conservation initiatives such as wildlife collaring, darting, monitoring, and relocations, ensuring a sustainable future for the reserve. Embracing a collaborative approach, they actively participate in local projects like Project Cheetah, Project Elephant, Project Lions, Project Rhino, Project Wild Dogs, Project Hyena, and fund the Predator Management program within Madikwe.
  • Through their non-profit Morukuru Goodwill Foundation, the lodge aids anti-poaching teams in the park by providing trail cameras and necessary equipment. The illegal wildlife trade poses a significant threat to animals in South Africa’s national park, especially the big five: elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard. Preventing poaching is crucial for ensuring the survival of these species within the reserve.
  • Their foundation also supports a local school in Molatedi Village. Their assistance has contributed to infrastructure development, provision of equipment, installation of recycling stations, construction of a greenhouse and the provision of skills workshops.

Places to combine Morokuru River with

Ellerman House

South Africa

Ellerman House
Ellerman House is a class act throughout. It feels very much like your own home but with top class service befitting a five-star hotel. Perched in one of the most spectacular and privileged settings in Cape Town overlooking Bantry Bay, it is the epitome of comfort and class with a relaxed, elegant style. Decoration is colonial, with a nod to the contemporary and recently refurbished to provide thoroughly modern comforts. Where Ellerman House excels above others is
Ariel view of waves breaking on a forested shoreline
