Following the rhythms of the Great Migration in Tanzania, Africa, and relocating twice a year across the Serengeti, Songa Migrational Camp ensures you’re always in the thick of the action. And with private vehicles and highly experienced guides on hand, you can expect an enriching experience in the country’s wild heart.

From June to October, the camp sits among the rocky, rolling hills of the Kogatende region in the northern Serengeti. Here, you’re perfectly positioned to witness the heart-thumping crossings of great wildebeest herds as they plunge into the Mara River while crocodiles and big cats lie in ambush. Watch this extraordinary spectacle unfold from the bird’s-eye view of a hot air balloon, when the golden light of the rising sun bathes the landscape below in a soft warm glow.

Songa then shifts its location to the southern Serengeti between December and March, to the Maswa Game Reserve – a protected wildlife area scattered with grassy plains and rock kopjes (outcrops) where wild dogs, greater kudus and elephants roam. The camp arrives just in time for the beginning of the calving season, offering you the rare chance to see newborn zebras and wildebeest take their first unsteady steps.

With only ten tented rooms and a family tent, Songa Migrational Camp feels wonderfully intimate. Beneath the canvas, interiors draw inspiration from the wilderness’ dramatic palette of smouldering, orange sunsets and the deep blues of the night. They’re also spacious and comfortably furnished, and overlook sweeping views of endless plains. For lunch and dinner, gather for wholesome, family-style sharing plates. Meanwhile, mornings start with platters of fresh fruit, homemade yogurt and crisp, warm pastries.

Set high on the slopes of Olmoti volcano, with views all the way to the Serengeti, this camp is far from any other camp in the area, yet guests can get to the Ngorongoro crater floor for dawn.

Eight domed perspex-and-canvas suites offer king-sized beds with floor-to-canvas-ceiling bay windows opening out to the spectacular views, en-suite bathrooms and wood-burning stoves for the cold winter evenings. One is designed to accommodate two adults and two children and the honeymoon suite is a little bit more private with a large elevated deck and an outdoor hot tub.

This warm and stylish high altitude camp is redefining the Ngorongoro experience. Deliberately positioned deep in this highland wilderness for maximum privacy, it offers a richness of adventure and range of activities not possible elsewhere in crater area.

The camp is perfectly located for great hikes and nature walks, or you can visit the local Maasai communities to get a glimpse into the way of life that has shaped this area of East Africa while sightings of zebra, buffalo, porcupine and even elephants have been reported from the camp.
