Itinerary in detail

Every Jacada trip is tailored to your personal preferences and interests. Below you’ll find a sample itinerary to inspire your own custom-designed journey.

Days 2–5

Into the desert

One of the most scenic parts of Namibia, Damaraland encompasses the expanses of rugged wilderness in Namibia‘s northwest between the Skeleton CoastKaokoland and Etosha, engulfed by the towering presence of the Brandberg Massif (Namibia’s highest mountain) and the Spitzkoppe mountain.

Days at Desert Rhino Camp

A lone rhino standing in yellow grass with mountains in the background

Set among the rolling, rocky hills of the 450,000-hectare Palmwag Concession, Desert Rhino Camp and its surrounds are known for their tranquil, minimalist beauty, wealth of arid-adapted wildlife and the largest free-roaming black rhino population in Africa.

Aside from the desert-adapted black rhino, Palmwag Concession’s freshwater springs also support healthy populations of desert-adapted elephant, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, giraffe, gemsbok, springbok, kudu and predators such as lion, cheetah, leopard, and brown and spotted hyaena. Birdlife is prolific and diverse with most of Namibia’s endemics present.

The focus of a stay here is on tracking black rhino on foot. You can also head out on game drives to spot desert-adapted elephants and other animals.

Days 5–8

On the Skeleton Coast

Arguably Namibia’s most striking destination, the Skeleton Coast has earned its formidable name over the centuries for its treacherous currents, barren shores and inhospitable beauty. Today this region is an adventurer’s playground due to its remarkable landscape of shipwrecks, secret rivers, shifting sand dunes, mesmerising canyons and its well concealed life.

Days at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp

A safari vehicle stops to watch a pair of elephants cross the road in Hoanib Skeleton Coast.

Arguably Namibia’s most striking destination, the Skeleton Coast earned its formidable name over the centuries from its treacherous currents, barren shores and inhospitable beauty. This remarkable landscape lends itself perfectly to flying safaris, which see you soaring over shipwrecks, secret rivers, shifting sand dunes and mesmerising canyons.

The terrain changes the further north you go, as does its inaccessibility. For about 250km north of Swakopmund to Torra Bay, the scene is mostly gravel plains and rocky desert. The southern part of the Skeleton Coast Park is accessible by car until Terrace Bay where its northern section or ‘wilderness area’ is restricted to fly-in visitors only.

Days 8–11

On safari in Etosha

Etosha’s most distinguishing feature is its enormous, horizon-less silvery salt pan that it encompasses, as well as the variety and concentration of game that crowd its surrounding spring-fed waterholes. Nicknamed the “Place of Mirages”, the terrain is extraordinary and a photographer’s delight, especially when a pride of lions, herds of blue wildebeests or desert elephants appear through the haze to stand against this stark backdrop.

Days exploring Etosha

Watching an elephant really close out of a Jeep at a safari in Namibia.

Arriving at Etosha National Park you will be astounded by the wonderful interior terrain and scenery. Spend your days on safari on game drives to spot the impressive selection of wildlife. Depending on which lodge or camp you choose to stay at, there will be a range of other activities on offer for you to make the most of your time here.
