It’s no secret that Bali is a prime destination for beaches, surfing and wellness. One of more than 17,000 islands in Indonesia, this tropical paradise is renowned as a haven of both relaxation and adventure – not to mention culture and cuisine. You’ll find all of that and more at our favourite luxury hotels in Bali, from the terraces of Ubud to the shores of Seminyak.
Bali’s luxury resorts are among the world’s best. Some boast remote locations in the island’s quieter areas; others are right at the heart of its most famous locales. Each one ensures that your every need will be met, whether you’re hoping to soak up the sun, catch some waves, restore your energy, explore ancient sites or get a taste of everything the island has to offer.

1. Capella Ubud
At the centre of Bali you’ll find the town of Ubud, enveloped in dense rainforest and brimming with culture. Capella Ubud immerses you in this splendid landscape, with just 22 luxurious tents (and one lodge) scattered among the lush foliage.
Capella is one of the most distinctive luxury hotels in Bali. Its remote setting promises unbeatable views of the surrounding rice terraces, slopes and valleys, and it offers a wide array of interactive experiences in which you can learn about the island’s culture and traditions, including traditional dance classes and cleansing water rituals.

2. Bvlgari Resort Bali
Bearing the name of the legendary luxury brand, Bulgari Resort Bali certainly lives up to its title. It’s located on the island’s southern tip near Uluwatu, with a few dozen villas and two exclusive mansions set atop a staggering cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Each villa has its own private pool, but it’s also well worth visiting the resort’s main pool, which sits right at the edge of the cliff. You’ll find everything you need on–site, including a spa, a boutique, a library and restaurants serving Indonesian and Italian cuisine.

3. Alila Villas Uluwatu
Another clifftop retreat on Bali’s southern coast, Alila Villas Uluwatu is an icon of both contemporary style and sustainable design. Its sleek villas feature minimalist decor and private infinity pools; common areas include a cantilevered lounge that juts out toward the sea.
Alila works hard to help preserve the island’s natural environment and cultural heritage. It operates several initiatives to minimise waste and energy consumption, and prioritises cultural authenticity everywhere from the spa to The Warung restaurant, where you can enjoy a traditional Balinese cooking class.

4. Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay
The Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay feels more like a village than a hotel – and that’s the idea. The 35–acre property includes more than 150 villas, each providing its own little slice of paradise in the fishing village of Jimbaran.
Like many of Bali’s luxury resorts, the Four Seasons also invites you to venture beyond its beautiful grounds to discover ancient temples, experience traditional blessings or even head out to sea with a local fisherman.

5. Raffles Bali
Despite Bali’s popularity, it’s still possible to get off the beaten track here – and Raffles Bali proves it. Located just outside of Jimbaran, this secluded resort feels like a world apart. Its gardens host more than a hundred thriving plant species, and the property has its own hidden beach.
Accommodation at Raffles consists of private villas, including the spectacular Presidential Villa with panoramic views and space for up to six guests. You’ll be attended to by a ‘wellbeing butler’ who will make sure every moment of your stay is exceptional.

6. Nirjhara
Nirjhara is one of our preferred spots for a Bali luxury vacation away from the crowds. This opulent eco–resort is tucked into the verdant jungle of Tabanan just 30 minutes from Canggu, slightly inland from the striking Tanah Lot Temple.
Most of Nirjhara’s villas are hidden among the twisting trunks and leaves of the jungle, but the Canopy Suite stands out; this elevated structure is designed to provide the best possible views. The resort also boasts a saltwater pool, cinema, library and open–air yoga pavilion.

7. COMO Shambhala
COMO Shambhala is the ultimate Balinese wellness retreat. Every detail here is designed to improve your physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, from its peaceful setting amid the pristine forests of Ubud to its bespoke Ayurveda programme.
For the full experience, choose an integrated or specialised Wellness Path to guide your stay. You can enjoy healthy and nourishing cuisine at Glow, or indulge in Indonesian specialties at Kudus House – it’s all about balance, after all.

8. Soori Bali
Sophisticated design and modern comforts define Soori Bali, an exquisite refuge on the coast north of Canggu. This boutique hotel is intricately linked with the local community – a connection that’s exemplified by the diverse array of immersive and authentic cultural experiences on offer, including rescuing turtle eggs and traditional kite making workshops for children.
Accommodations range from one–bedroom villas with views of the ocean or rice paddies to larger residences with three to six bedrooms. Then there’s the expansive Soori Estate, a 10–bedroom mansion with its own gardens, spa, five swimming pools and butler service.

9. The Samaya Seminyak
Seminyak is a stylish beachfront destination on Bali’s southwest coast, and The Samaya is its most romantic hotel. Each of its 52 villas has a private pool – large enough to swim laps – and a spacious outdoor area, either beside the beach or in the hotel’s tropical gardens.
The Samaya is also a good choice for families, who can opt for either the three-bedroom Royal Courtyard Villa or interconnecting one–bedroom villas. Nearby you’ll find world–class shopping, epic surf spots and the Canggu Recreation Club: paradise for younger travellers.

10. Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Set right beside the Ayung River in Ubud, Mandapa is a tranquil sanctuary designed to combine wellness, gastronomy and sustainability. The riverside spa offers holistic healing treatments, while various eateries serve farm–to–table Indonesian and international cuisine.
Choose from comfortable suites and secluded pool villas, which merge Balinese design with top–of–the–line amenities. Mandapa’s location is especially ideal if you’re hoping to explore the area’s many cultural attractions, such as Saraswati Temple or go hiking, biking or rafting through the wilderness.
