Bawah Reserve

Secluded island sanctuary

A private island retreat within Indonesia's Anambas Archipelago

Tucked away within Indonesia’s Anambas Archipelago, Bawah Reserve encompasses six private islands, accessible via a 75-minute seaplane journey from Singapore. Surrounded by a 1,000-hectare marine conservation area, Bawah Reserve features only 36 suites, villas and lodges. With accommodations scattered across the island, some extending out to the sea, others nestled along the beachfront and a few tucked away in the forest, Bawah Reserve feels perennially quiet. Expect exceptional service and incredible underwater adventures at this private island resort.

The resort’s four restaurants showcase Indonesian and Mediterranean flavours with fresh farm-to-table ingredients. At the spa, guests can enjoy rejuvenating treatments and daily movement classes.

Bawah Reserve uses floating solar panels in the lagoon to generate clean electricity, provide shade and regulate water temperature, protecting aquatic life. Designed with a ‘minimal impact’ philosophy, the resort clears only necessary areas and uses locally-sourced natural building materials. Mirrors, sinks and bathtubs are crafted from recycled copper, while stone steps, paths and foundations are quarried on the island.

  • Bawah’s marine protected zone features comprehensive conservation led by expert marine biologists. They care for species like the Blue-spotted Ribbon tail Ray, Blacktip Reef Shark, Green Sea Turtles, and Hawksbill Turtles, protecting over 1,500 turtle hatchlings annually from poaching and natural predators such as monitor lizards.
  • As a guest, your stay significantly supports the island’s waste management strategies, including sorting, recycling, and composting, which minimise environmental impact and promote community economic development.
