The heavenly island archipelago
While visiting this archipelago of 99 islands, it is easy to see why Langkawi is branded a tropical paradise colloquially and the Jewel of Kedah officially.
Based in the Andaman Sea some thirty kilometres from mainland Malaysia, Langkawi boasts clear turquoise waters, fine white sands and lush, outstanding natural beauty. Delving further in from the main beaches, you will find yourself in scenic, rural Malaysia where you can explore its traditional villages – or Kampungs as they are also known.
If tropical serenity, great diving and exquisite unspoiled beaches are what you are after then you won’t be disappointed with Langkawi.
Highlights
Take in the spectacular views in the Langkawi Cable Car
Embark on a boat cruise through the mangrove forest of Kilim Geoforest Park
Head into the Bat Cave (known as Gua Kelawar in Malay), an ancient cave home to thousands of Malaysian Fruit Bats on the Kilim River
Langkawi is perfect for a coastal escape. I recommend spending your days in the crystal-clear waters lapping at the islands' shores on a privately chartered boat, marvelling at the incredible seascapes as you drift past huge cliff-faces and jagged karsts.
