Home to numerous pretty coves and secluded white sand beaches only accessible by boat, Koh Phangan is ideal for those looking for an intimate island retreat.
Away from the backpacker trails and beach parties in Haad Rin, Koh Phangan is in fact quite a sleepy sort of island. Blanketed in jungle, this mountainous island offers trekking, zip lining and is fast becoming a wellness destination too. Choose from some impeccable five star hotels and excellent restaurants positioned in beautiful bays
There are a number of dive sites around the island, although nearby Koh Tao offers some of the best island in Thailand and is well worth a visit for novice to expert divers to view the vibrant underwater life.
When to go
The best time to visit the islands off the East Coast is from December to August, the afternoons tend to be hot and sunny, the evenings and night are warm.
What to do
- Relax on the beach and take a boat trip to Koh Tao for diving and snorkelling or to explore the Ao Nang national park. The full moon party is held here on a monthly basis and can be equally easily attended or avoided.
