Perth can be found on the far west coast of the country, the capital city of Western Australia state, and while it may appear to be isolated from other major cities, it carries a uniquely laid back and cosmopolitan charm and has been voted as one of the most liveable modern cities, not just in Australia, but in the world.

The city itself is a mixture of architectural designs, from Art Deco to vast glass skyscrapers. Strolling through its streets, you will hear the air fill with the sounds of the Swan Bells as you discover Perth’s art galleries and museums. Ferries across Swan River to South Perth offer a wonderful cityscape view while the golden beaches strung out into Perth’s suburbs up and down the coast from the river mouth a the place to end the day, watching the sun set over the waves. And for those in search of the one of the most photogenic animals in the world, take a boat across to Rottness Island to meet the resident quokkas.

Some way south, is Margaret River, a rich wine producing region that also has dozens of top quality surf spots, lush forests and great blooming patches of wild flowers. There is a distinct collection of wines, cheeses, ice-creams and craft beer, produced here, coming together in a large artisanal community of craftsmen and connoisseurs, together making this area a must for foodies.

When to go

Perth enjoys hot, dry summers and mild winters. During summer rain is unusual, but winter can bring downpours of rain and thunderstorms.
