Days 1–3

Welcome to Auckland

It frequents the list for most liveable city year after year and after a bit of time in Auckland it’s not hard to understand why. New Zealand’s largest cosmopolitan centre is a lively mix of culture, cuisine, music and art with ample green spaces and easily accessible beaches. With influences from Asia, the Pacific islands and Europe along with traditional Maori culture, it is a fresh and vibrant city, with some of the best eateries and cafes in the country

Fly by private helicopter high above the Waitemata Harbour to Waiheke Island where you’ll be met by your private driver and vehicle for a full day guided tour of the island’s vineyards. We’ll craft an itinerary especially for you, including meeting fascinating people, visiting interesting places and enjoying delicious flavours as you learn about what makes Waiheke wines among some of the best in the world.

Days 3–5

Lakeside Taupo

You’ll find the resort town of Taupo resting on the northeastern shores of Australasia’s largest lake. Actually a volcano crater, the lake’s deep blue waters draw visitors with its idyllic swimming holes, reputable fishing and adventure sports. On a clear day, the views stretch out over the glassy water to the snowcapped volcanoes of Tongariro National Park in the distance. The country’s longest river, the Waikato, also flows out of here, crashing over the nearby and must-see Huka Falls.

Ruakuri Cave tour

Enjoy a visit to the captivating Ruakuri Cave for your private guided walking tour. Ruakuri Cave offers a captivating blend of Waitomo’s most compelling subterranean experiences – journey down a spiral entrance and marvel at the softly folding shawl-like limestone formations and crystal tapestries. You will experience winding passageways, vast echoing caverns, deep crevices, and subterranean waterfalls. Your guide will lead you along narrow corridors and across low-lit walkways high above the river during this longest of guided underground walking tours

Kinloch hike

Together with your private driver, you’ll head off to Kinloch where you’ll enjoy a  nine kilometre hike through native bush to the beautiful Kawakawa Bay situated in the Western Bays of Lake Taupo. The hike should take around two an a half hours.

Half day charter on Lake Taupo

At Kawakawa you will meet your private launch to enjoy a half day charter on Lake Taupo, visiting the many bays and inlets accessible only by boat. Lunch, wine, beer, and fishing licenses have been included today. After returning to Taupo mid-afternoon you will be transferred back to your accommodation.

Days 5–8

Golden Hawke's Bay

The North Island’s wine country is one of New Zealand’s warmest, driest regions with golden colours stretching across arid plains. The scene here is made up of vineyards and orchards laden with fruit, fertile farmlands that sweep to the perfect waves on the coast and laidback seaside settlements.

Hawkes Bay

Full day wine tour

Head out with your private guide for a full day of visiting some of the best wineries in Hawke’s Bay, tasting award-winning wines along the way. Hawke’s Bay is the oldest and second largest winegrowing area in the country. You will talk with the personalities who are passionate about crafting these world-class wines. Lunch is included at one of the venues.

Cape Kidnappers tour

Enjoy your guided ATV tour at Cape Kidnappers. Discover the sheer expanse of the property inaccessible to the public and regular vehicles. The tour will take you to the furthermost reaches of the property with unrivalled views. You will be driven to the Plateau Gannet Colony where you can observe the largest mainland colony of gannets in the world before heading to the historic Rangaika Beach.

Optional extra activities

During your leisure time at  Rosewood Cape Kidnappers, there are a variety of optional extra activities you may be interested in, including nature walks, mountain biking, shepherding, beach picnics and clay bird shooting.

Days 8–10

Creative Christchurch

Known as the garden city of New Zealand, Christchurch invites you to discover historic architecture, art galleries, parks and landscaped gardens, and the Avon River that meanders through its centre. Flanked by impressive mountain ranges on one side and the South Pacific Ocean on the other, there are endless activities awaiting adventure seekers beyond the city centre. Hike, cycle, kayak and ski, or take to the numerous rivers of the Canterbury region for fly-fishing, jet boating and river rafting.

Private cooking class

Take part in a  private one hour cooking class with Otahuna’s Executive Chef Jimmy McIntyre. This class gives you an enjoyable overview of the philosophies behind the Lodge’s celebrated food and wine programme.

Sightseeing in Akaroa village

Spend a full day sightseeing in the quaint French seaside village of Akaroa. This historic settlement is nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano close to  Christchurch. Explore the village with its colonial architecture, craft stores, and cafés. You’ll also enjoy a  shared Akaroa Harbour nature cruise. Look out for the rare Hector’s dolphin as well as the world’s smallest penguin, the white flippered little blue penguin. Visit a working salmon farm, Cathedral Cave, and see early Maori, French, and British settlements.

Days 10–12

Alluring Ahuriri Valley

Find yourself surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of rugged mountain country, wetlands, tussock lands and beech forest. The valley is home to the Ahuriri Conservation Park which extends over 49,000 hectares. One of the highlights of the region is the brightly hued Lake Tekapo, watched over by the humble Church of the Good Shepherd, one of the most photographed buildings in New Zealand. Close by are hot springs and the Mount John Observatory from which you can peer deep into starry nights of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest International Dark Sky Reserve.

Your private guide will meet you at the lodge and take you to a private spot in the valley to begin your night of star gazing. You will identify some of the closer and brighter stars, star clusters, Greek and Maori constellation as well as ancient techniques used for celestial navigation. Get a closer look at some of the interesting deep sky objects and planets through a telescope.

Fiordland Heli Traverse experience

Enjoy a unique Fiordland Heli Traverse, passing through majestic fiords, getting up close to huge waterfalls and seeing the region’s wildlife in its otherwise inaccessible natural habitat. Hover over glaciers, land in the snow and at beautiful, isolated mountain lakes for photographs.
Featuring lunch with a spectacular mountain backdrop, this is a magnificent experience and unquestionably a highlight of any trip to this region of New Zealand.

Days 12–15

Beautiful Queenstown

Queenstown is one of New Zealand’s most picturesque towns, sitting on the tip of the crystal clear Lake Wakatipu. It’s a bustling hub of international and local visitors come to seek out one of the endless thrills on offer here from skiing, white water rafting, canyon swinging, jet boating, mountain biking and bungy jumping.

Mackenzie Country and the Lindis Pass

Your scenic transfer to Queenstown via the Mackenzie Country and the Lindis Pass, takes you through the rugged landscape of the Lindis Valley, to the warm banks of the Bannockburn region, and the scenic inclines of Bendigo, Central Otago, the world’s southernmost wine-producing region holds secrets around every corner. Browse the boutique shops and art galleries of Cromwell and later Arrowtown. View the historic Kawarau Bridge and see the bungy jumpers.

Wakatipu Basin art tour

Together with a private art guide, you’ll spend the day exploring the stunning Wakatipu Basin,  home to an incredible feast of world class artists. The day will be tailored to your interests, allowing you to visit studios off the beaten track and meet the artists.

Helicopter ride and gourmet picnic

Take a morning transfer to Queenstown Airport before heading out on a helicopter Picnic on a Peak experience, which will whisk you away to a secluded alpine location.
