Mihir Gahr, meaning ‘The Fort of the Sun’, is a contemporary desert palace an hour south of Jodhpur, the vision of Sidharth and Rashmi Rohet who wanted to share the Thar Desert’s tranquillity with the discerning traveller.
Built by a team of 100 local craftsmen and women using traditional techniques, with stylish furnishings and interior decorations bought from the Jodhpur region alone, the fort is a timeless celebration of its place.
There are just nine suites here, each more than 158 square metres (1700 square feet). The suites on the ground floor have their own plunge pool and personal courtyard, while the suites on the first floor each have an exclusive open air Jacuzzi along with a private terrace.
Experience the wild setting on a range of excursions such as horse riding on fine specimens of the hardy Marwari breed, tours to nearby villages to learn about the unique culture of rural Rajasthan, picnics in the deserts and bird watching. A really special experience is a ‘shikar’ dinner in the desert, a traditional hunting feast by the fire out in the dunes under the stars before a camel ride back to the fort.
