Los Potreros
Experience authentic estancia life
Los Potreros invokes a timeless sense of place. Discreetly tucked amid the smoothly rising hills of the Sierras Chicas within a protected reserve, this 6,000-acre cattle ranch has remained within the same family for four generations. The estancia traces its origins to the 1600s, offering a window into Argentina‘s farming culture.
From your arrival, you’ll be greeted with warmth, as if you belong to the family. Mealtimes centre around a family table; think homemade fare with a European influence and sociable asados or barbecues. You’ll be taught traditional recipes, too, from empanadas to fresh pasta. Lodgings, meanwhile, are cosily furnished with personal touches and wood-burning stoves for colder winter nights; their original stone walls and wood-beamed ceilings preserve the aura of a past era.
Life on the estancia naturally revolves around the outdoors, whose surroundings unfold across woodland, valleys and rocky outcrops, home to wild boars, pumas and diving Andean condors. At Los Potreros, more than 130 horses roam, including criollos, polo ponies and the famed ‘dancing horse’ of Peru, the Peruvian Paso. You can observe gauchos in their element or take to the saddle yourself. Alternatively, you can wander along the riding trails on foot that open to sweeping vistas. Other activities include polo sessions, bird watching and wine tastings.
