Tocú Tent Camp

A tented camp with private trails, wildlife encounters and conservation in action
In the heart of Hacienda Caño Negro Natural Park in northern Costa Rica, Tocú Tent Camp is surrounded by wetlands and the jungle, alive with the calls of some 350 bird species. Staying here means waking to the sight of herons lifting from the water, spotting monkeys and reptiles on a boat tour and ending the day around the fire.
The camp’s luxury tents are designed to bring you directly into this landscape, with private terraces, open-air showers and locally crafted furnishings and textiles. The camp’s gathering spaces centre around fire pits, a lounge and a restaurant, where meals draw on local flavours. Life here flows between comfort and connection to nature, particularly walking the reserve’s private trails and spotting wildlife with expert guides.
Tocú also invites you to take an active part in the restoration of this fragile ecosystem through its reforestation project, which includes nature workshops on sustainable ranching and farming practices. Guests can learn about this conservation work while spotting rare jungle species and planting a tree through the camp’s adoption programme, leaving a living marker of your time in Caño Negro.

Monteverde Lodge sits on the edge of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in the Tilarán Mountains. You can walk into Santa Elena, the main town, in around ten minutes.
Stay in one of its bright and breezy rooms overlooking the gardens or forest, each with a balcony or terrace. You do not need to go far for wildlife here. Hummingbirds and other cloud forest birds move through the gardens all day, so even time by the naturally heated pool can turn into birdwatching. El Jardín, the lodge’s restaurant, is also a real draw. It is considered one of the top restaurants in Santa Elena and focuses on local ingredients. Expect generous breakfasts and a variety of dishes for lunch and dinner, plus a full plant-based menu. Signature dishes include a shrimp tostada with avocado mousse, beef tenderloin with local blackberries and coffee, and black risotto with grilled octopus and seafood.
What we especially like is that sustainability sits at the heart of the lodge. Monteverde Lodge is committed to low-impact tourism and works closely with local communities and providers. It also supports education and conservation projects for future generations, while helping to protect and restore the natural ecosystems around the area.
