This is a wonderful stretch of coastline to the south of Lima. Not only is this area of great beauty, it is also a great base from which to explore two greatly different attractions.

The Nazca lines are one of the most beguiling mysteries left by the ancient civilisations of Peru. The best way to experience the impressive size and technique of these creations is by over-flights which can easily be arranged.

The Ballestas islands are Peru’s answer to the Galapagos, a protected area rich with bird and marine life where one can see many different species of bird, sea lions and penguins.

The coastline also enjoys a dry climate and is a great place to spend some time relaxing after exploring the highland areas during a luxury Peru tour.

When to go

This is a year-round destination and with so much to see and do, it doesn't matter if you're caught out with a day or two of bad weather.
