This area in the north of Peru is home to some of the country’s most important and interesting pre-Columbian archaeological sites.
Located around the city of Trujillo, the Moche Valley is the site of ruins from the ancient Chimu culture, including the vast Adobe Palace complex of Chan Chan, the Huaca del Luna and Huaca del Sol. Further north around Chiclayo can be found the important sites of the Tucume Valley with fascinating pyramids and tombs. These cultures and empires, separate from those further south in the Andes, truly show the wealth of Peru’s ancient cultures.
The coastline here is also famous for having some of the best surf conditions in the world and is a pleasant, relaxing place to stay after exploring the culture inland. Visit Trujillo and Chiclayo on a luxury trip to Peru.

This area is great to visit year-round. The National Festival of Marinera takes place in Trujillo in February and the Spring Festival takes place in September, both of which see outdoor celebrations and a hive of activity.
