Called “Pelô” by the locals, the neighborhood is preserved as part of UNESCO cultural heritage. Navigate its narrow streets with your local guide, who’ll teach you about the colonial architecture in Portuguese baroque style. Visit São Francisco Church, built in the 17th century, before heading to Pelourinho Square, the core of the old town. Here you’ll find great craft shops, museums, restaurants, and bars.

Today, you’ll learn about the intricate craft and skill that goes into this visually impressive art form, as well as the deep philosophy associated with it, during an immersive class led by master capoeiristas. They’ll teach you the history of the martial art and some basic moves, as well as the importance of music, played on a one-stringed instrument called a berimbau.
