The Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba is a modern take on a traditional hacienda, wonderfully located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas between Cusco and Machu Picchu, its sizable estate backed by green mountains and overlooking terraced fields below.
The view is shared by all 12 rooms in the Casa Hacienda and 24 standalone casitas. Architecture and interiors are inspired on the area’s cultural history, with colonial furniture, authentic Inca masks and handcrafted woodwork giving a genuine sense of place.
Food at this luxury eco-lodge in the Sacred Valley is centred around an ‘earth to table’ concept, with produce from the hacienda’s organic plantation. Quinoa, Urubamba giant corn, medicinal herbs and a variety of potatoes are farmed with traditional hand tools and oxen, as done centuries ago, and guests are welcome to join in picking their own crops.
The most recent addition to the hacienda is the Mayu Spa, which means river in Quechua. Travel up to 12,400 feet to a remote mountain village unchanged for hundreds of years. The Quechua community here still wear traditional dresses, made themselves from local alpaca wool using techniques handed down through generations. You’ll have the opportunity to join in with marking the alpacas before observing the process of dyeing and spinning alpaca fibres to make garments. End the visit with a special Pachamanca meal, prepared underground on hot stones.

Your guide will bring you to the fascinating (and beautiful) sites of Maras and Moray. Maras is an open system of terraces that has been used for centuries to harvest salt from a stream of mineral rich water that comes from within the mountain. Moray is an ancient system of Inca terraces which were used to acclimatise new plants to the high altitude environment.

The Vistadome train takes you to the magnificent ancient Incan citadel of Machu Picchu in superb modern comfort.
As per its name, the train has wide glass windows built into the roof and sides of the carriages so you really do get to see the rich Peruvian countryside rushing by. Large leather seats, air conditioning, heating, and good service reflects all the contemporary efficiency and standards of Peru Rail too.

Overview
Named after the first American to discover the Incan hilltop citadel in 1911 and owned by Orient Express, the Hiram Bingham is a world-class luxury train. Travellers on the train are driven to Poroy station just outside Cusco to board the exclusive blue and gold painted carriages and for just over three hours you are resplendently transported to Aguacalientes, the town beneath the ruins.
Aboard, the 1920s Pullman carriages reflect the opulence of the locomotive era bedecked in polished brass, wood panels and rich, comfy seating. There is also a period observation car at the rear.
Brunch on the outward journey and dinner on your return are included. These are taken in the elegant dining car replete with white-linen tablecloths, clinking crystal, and you are looked after by the smartest team of waiters. Whilst feasting on fine Peruvian cuisine the steamy forest scenery unfolds right in front of you and there’s a great bar car that often has live music on the return leg, or you can just simply relax into a snug armchair in one of the carriages.

The only accommodation located inside of Machu Picchu, The Sanctuary Lodge offers stunning views from many of the rooms and the hotel is within walking distance of the Incan ruins. Three days at the beach
Arguably Peru’s best beach town, Mancora sits along the country’s northern stretch of beaches, gazing out onto the Pacific ocean. It’s got a lively atmosphere and the surf to match – take to the waves with a private lesson during your time here. Being on the coast makes it the ideal spot to sample fresh seafood – black shell ceviche, or ceviche de conchas negras, is a local speciality.

Overview
On a quiet stretch of beach 20 minutes south of Mancora, Arennas Mancora is a modern retreat making the most of this coastline’s perfect surf and beautiful sunsets.
There are 22 contemporary rooms and private villas are spacious, minimalist and each with air-conditioning and its own terrace. Many feature huge glass doors out onto private decks and Pocitas beach.
The property also features spacious lounges and terraces, an outdoor pool, bar and restaurant. A range of activities can be organised from here, including deep sea fishing, whale watching trips, surfing and kite surfing classes, and horse rides on the beach.

Overview
Kichic takes its name from two words; ki meaning an energy-giving life force and chic, synonymous with style. This beautiful boutique hotel is an oasis of calm on the shores of the Los Pocitas beach, that focuses on offering guests the opportunity to rejuvenate and reconnect with nature.
Each of the seven suites and rooms are spacious and flooded with natural light. Natural materials and a soft colour scheme of cream, stone and grey create a peaceful environment in which to relax. Most rooms come with a terrace and some feature outdoor showers and bath tubs. The deluxe suites have their own private plunge pool and direct access to the beach.
Local fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts are used to create delicious vegetarian meals at the hotel restaurant, where you can also enjoy freshly squeezed juices. There is also a seafood bar serving fresher-than-fresh fish from the surrounding waters.
You are located just moments from the beach where you can swim, snorkel, take a windsurfing lesson or simply lay back and relax. Back at the hotel, there is an outdoor pool and the opportunity to take a yoga class, unwind with a massage or just sit back with a drink and enjoy the sound of the waves and the rustle of the trees in the garden.

A seaside town, Mancora has a thriving fishing industry. Start your day early, taking a trip out with the local fishermen to help them win their catch. They’ll guide you through their techniques, as well as the best spots to fish. Back on shore, you’ll begin a cooking class to turn your catch into delicious, freshly–caught ceviche.
