Luxor is known today as the world’s window into the history of Ancient Egypt. It was once the ancient city of Thebes and is home to archaeological sites including the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings, and the majestic temple complex of Karnak.

Located in Upper Egypt, Luxor is the only city in Egypt where this number of ancient attractions are grouped together, and most are easily found in the centre of the city.

Admire the mysterious obelisk guarding Luxor Temple, or learn the Ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife during a guided tour around the tombs of the Valley of Kings and the West Bank of Luxor. The necropolis of Thebes is symbolically located where the sun sets.

Here you can also enjoy a private visit to the stunning tomb of Queen Nefertari, where the hieroglyphs and illustrations that adorn the walls are still so vibrant it’s hard to even comprehend their long history.

Memorable things to do in Luxor also include sailing down the Nile in a felucca, relaxing as the scenery drifts by, taking a trip to Dendera to hear the stories of Dendera temple and the Ancient Egyptian goddess Hathor, and watching the Karnak sound-and-light show from the banks of the Nile.
