You’ll pass the diplomatic quarter on your way to Old Muscat with its colourful Al Alam Palace which is flanked by two Portuguese forts, Al Mirani and Al Jalali, and you’ll visit Bait Al Zubair Museum. Afterwards, drive along the panoramic corniche to Muttrah Souk, the oldest market in Oman.

Highlights
- Five restaurants each with their own personality
- Luxurious bedrooms with serene sea views
- Tailor-made treatments in the Talise Spa
- High-tech gym and outdoor tennis courts
Overview
Settings rarely get more spectacular than at Jumeirah Muscat Bay: a glittering Arabian Sea stretches out ahead of the property, which has 206 rooms each with their own view of the ocean, while the rugged Al Hajar mountains rise up behind the hotel, creating a sense of total privacy in this little corner of the Omani coastline.
Your room, whether a private summerhouse with its own pool or a deluxe bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows for admiring that enchanting ocean, will provide a calm space for relaxation, while the property’s three pools are a refreshing place to get active. The highlight here, though, is the private beach: soft yellow sands lapped by the calm waters of the Arabian Sea are a tempting prospect.
Savour the fruits of the ocean at the beachfront restaurant, Zuka, or spend cosy nights sipping cocktails in the intimate Anzo bar, where the views are just as good as the mixologists’ creations. Indulge in a hammam treatment at the Talise Spa, or play a game of tennis on the outdoor courts.

Discover Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve
Stay overnight to observe nesting turtles and spend time in the interactive museum at Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, home to four species of turtle and other wildlife.

Dhow shipyard visit and hiking in Wadi Shab
As you head towards Wahiba, visit a shipyard that builds traditional wooden dhows without nails or glue according to the old customs. Further on, in Wadi Shab, you will hike between the rocky walls and the abundant vegetation. Refresh yourself in the natural water basins. Swim through a narrow crevasse and you will be surprised by a waterfall in the cave.
Under the stars in the Omani desert
Head away from the towns and cities into Wahiba Sands for a truly memorable experience of Bedouin life. A few nights in a desert camp will reward you with astounding night skies and wholesome Omani cuisine.
During the day, rippling dunes seem to stretch as far as the eye can see here – some reaching heights of 100m (330ft). At night, with light pollution from cities far away, stars twinkle across the inky black sky. It’s easy to get lost in the desert’s magic.

Despite the remote location, each room has its own en-suite bathroom, while some come equipped with private terraces and their own plunge pools for cooling off in the desert heat.

Experience Omani hospitality
In the morning you will have time to fully enjoy the silence of the desert. Later, you will have the opportunity to experience Omani hospitality over lunch with a Bedouin family. You will then drive to the famous Wadi Bani Khalid. You will have plenty of time in this evergreen oasis, whose pools, filled with turquoise and sapphire waters, invite you to cool off.
Visit Mudayrib, Nizwa and Birkat Al Mouz
In the village of Mudayrib, a well maintained settlement dating back several hundred years, you can explore Al Kanajirah Fort, the carved town gate, a lively marketplace and the traditional houses. Nizwa, the cultural capital of the country, offers a visit to the souk and fort. After, head to Birkat Al Mouz, a deserted village at the foot of a mountain. This magical place is surrounded by date plantations and an ancient aflaj irrigation system that is a UNESCO heritage site.
Explore Oman’s wild mountain terrain
The next leg of your trip takes you to the Al Hajar mountains where you can experience the breathtaking beauty of Oman’s landscape from a via ferrata or hiking around Jebel Akhdar, the green mountain that lies 2,000 metres above sea level. The name derives from the fact that the area is one of the most fertile in the country. Apricots, pomegranates, peaches, grapes, almonds and walnuts grow here – and of course the roses that are the base of the popular Omani rose water. In spring, when the roses bloom, visiting a rosewater factory is a special experience.
During your time here, you’ll happen upon mountain villages and ancient irrigation systems, and perhaps take a bike ride through the ancient village of Al Hamra.
