A warm colour scheme runs throughout the rooms and wooden floors and period antique pieces give them lots of traditional charm.

The Faena Buenos Aires is a striking design hotel in the waterside neighborhood of Puerto Madero, the brainchild of local empresario Alan Faena and designer Philippe Starck.
The hotel is located in the restored El Porteño building, an enormous silo built in 1902 that produced grain for post-war Europe. A red, black and white colour scheme runs through the hotel teamed with exposed brick walls and concrete pillars that hark back to its industrious past.
Rooms and suites are filled with eye catching touches such as hand embroidered throws and filigree mirrors and feature huge windows which look out over Ecological Reserve, the parks, Río de la Plata and the quaysides of Puerto Madero.
Eating and drinking at the Faena is a real treat. History
History
The Drakes Passage
Your journey to Antarctica begins with a two-day crossing of the Drake Passage, named after explorer Sir Francis Drake, who sailed these waters in 1578. This stretch between Cape Horn and the South Shetland Islands is a rite of passage, where the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans converge at the Polar Front. Keep an eye out for albatrosses, petrels, and the first sight of icebergs near the South Shetland Islands.
Neko Bay
At the bottom of Andvord Bay there’s a corner of paradise at the foot of a huge glacier. Neko Bay is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful sites in the Antarctic Peninsula. Wildlife is also abundant here, with seabirds such as gulls, Cape petrels, cormorants, and marine mammals such as seals, orcas and whales. Your guides will take you aboard the Zodiacs to get closer to the icebergs or land nearby to the penguin colonies, to observe a sea leopard, lounging on the beach or watch swoop of the Antarctic terns.
Port Lockroy
On reaching Goudier Island, visit Port Lockroy, first recorded by French explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot in 1903 and later a British base in 1944. Explore a museum showcasing 1950s base life and research on Papua penguins. You can also send letters from the remote post office. Nearby, Jougla Point is home to Gentoo penguins, Blue-eyed shags, and waters inhabited by leopard seals, crabeater seals, and whales.
The relaxing Pampas
The final destination on this epic trip is the tranquil Pampas plains, where you can experience the best of authentic estancia life on a luxurious ranch. Ride out with gauchos, enjoy an afternoon asado (barbecue), spend some time fishing or take your first polo lessons.

Highlights
- An authentic estancia experience
- Watch polo matches, or learn how to play yourself
- Embrace the history of the authentic buildings
- Boutique size of just 11 rooms creates an intimate and peaceful atmosphere
- Enjoy a drink in La Pulperia – an authentic gaucho inn
Overview
One of Argentina’s best boutique estancias for experience and elegance, La Bamba de Areco is an intimate, authentic stay in the heart of the Pampas plains. Just 120 kilometres from Buenos Aires, and within striking distance of one of the oldest towns in Argentina, San Antonio de Areco, the estancia captures the rugged romance of the gaucho way of life whilst still being impeccably stylish, well–run, and easily accessible.
Avenues of plane trees lead you through the ranch’s lush parklands and paddocks to the typically 19th-century corralled casco (main house) painted in proud Vermillion red and white – permitting in parts a couple of vines to steal up its walls. The building was once an important private home along the Camino Real (Royal Road), and still retains the grandeur of its history.
Its eleven rooms are decorated in a smart, farmhouse style that blends classic rustic-chic with contemporary elegance. They open up onto the ranch’s shaded wraparound patios, perfect for relaxing, watching the ponies and al fresco dining in summer. La Pulperia is the estancia’s own authentic gaucho inn converted to a separate lounge bar and boutique. Naturally, there are a number of equestrian activities to choose from, including spectating polo matches.
