Africa Concierge

From a young age I developed a deep love for travel thanks to my adventurous parents. Our family often went camping and took spontaneous road trips across South Africa, discovering the country’s hidden gems. This love for exploration grew when I spent a year abroad in Belgium, traveling to France, Italy, and the Netherlands, which expanded my understanding of different cultures. After returning home, I continued my adventures in Namibia and Mozambique, where I was captivated by their unique landscapes. For me, travel is not just a passion but a way of life, enriching my perspective and deepening my appreciation for the world’s diversity. Every journey, whether big or small, has been a chapter in my story of discovery and personal growth.

My most memorable trip

Namibia

My last trip to Namibia was incredibly special, as I embarked on a self–drive journey from Cape Town to Windhoek and then to Swakopmund. The highlight was witnessing the stunning sight of the desert meeting the sea – a moment that left me truly speechless. In Swakopmund, I had the thrill of sandboarding down towering dunes and quad–biking across the vast desert landscape, both exhilarating and unforgettable experiences.

My favourite restaurant

The Bungalow

I really enjoy a good salmon steak, served with mashed potato and broccoli. It might seem deceptively simple, but you can really tell when a restaurant uses high quality, well cooked ingredients. Some of the best I’ve ever had was at The Bungalow in Camps Bay – it was classic, comforting and delicious.

My favourite trip

An Adventurous Expedition Cruise to Svalbard

I’ve recently gotten into cruises, so for me, any trip involving an expedition cruise sounds incredible. My favourite would have to be An Adventurous Expedition Cruise to Svalbard, which gives the opportunity to witness stunning snowy landscapes, glaciers, and wildlife such as polar bears. It’s an ideal experience for those seeking both adventure and natural beauty.

My favourite hotel

Greystoke Mahale

Greystoke Mahale has to be my absolute favorite hotel. Located on the pristine shores of Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania, it offers the perfect combination of remote luxury and natural beauty, surrounded by the lush Mahale Mountains and with stunning views of the crystal clear lake. The peaceful, untouched surroundings create an atmosphere of tranquility and seclusion, making it feel like a true paradise.

My top tips

In South Africa, the South African Rand (ZAR) is the local currency, so it's essential to carry some cash, especially in remote areas. However, most urban areas accept credit and debit cards.

South Africa's climate varies greatly. Coastal areas like Cape Town can be cooler, while inland areas such as Johannesburg can be hot and dry. Pack layers to accommodate changing weather conditions, especially if you're visiting different regions.

In some regions, it's advisable to drink bottled water rather than tap water. Additionally, street food can be delicious, but ensure it’s from a reputable source in order to safely enjoy it.
